UHA Student performs in KMEA All-State Junior Chorus

LOUISVILLE, KY – On February 5, 2026, the Whitney Hall at the Kentucky Center resonated Two smiling individuals, one wearing a horse-patterned shirt and the other a choir t-shirt, pose for a photo.with the voices of the state's most talented young vocalists, including UHA student Emery Jennings. Jennings was selected to participate in the Kentucky Junior High Treble Chorus, a prestigious ensemble organized by the Kentucky Music Educators Association (KMEA).

Ms. Jennings' achievement is shared with University Heights Academy Chorus Director Jill Bressler  at this state-level event. The performance was the culmination of rigorous preparation and featured students from across the Commonwealth. The Treble Chorus was led by  guest conductor Sherry Blevins, "a luminary in the world of choral composition and education," according to Hinshaw Music . Blevins brought a wealth of professional prestige to the podium, having been commissioned by over 50 ensembles, including seven all-state choirs. An award-winning composer and lyricist, she has over 40 published works and was recently featured in GIA's 2025 book,  Choral Repertoire by Women Composers. A major highlight of the evening was the world premiere of a 2026 KMEA commissioned piece titled "Riding in the Derby," composed by Blevins herself. 

The choir’s diverse repertoire also included:
"Cantate Domino" by Nancy Hill Cobb
"A Reflection of Light" Music by Raphael Fusco and Lyrics by Sherry Blevins
"Awaken" by Sherry Blevins
"I Sing Because I'm Happy" by Charles H. Gabriel, arranged by Kenneth Baden and adapted by Rollo Dilworth

The performance was enriched by a variety of instrumentalists, including musicians from SCAPA Lafayette, Owensboro MS, and Beaumont MS. The event was coordinated by Lynn Przygoda from Leestown Middle School.

Ms. Jennings' participation in this event places her among an elite group of young performers representing schools from nearly every corner of Kentucky, from Paducah to Pikeville. This achievement highlights the dedication to musical excellence fostered in our local community and the high standard of arts education supported by the KMEA.
